About me…

I’m a 34 35 36-year-old Mom to a wonderful little boy, Natie - who lights up my life alongside my Husband, Rich.

Growing up I never had a weight problem.  I guess living upstate had many benefits in that there wasn’t a pizza joint on every corner.  If you wanted Chinese food you had to drive 20-30 mins just to place an order.  Fast food – same drive.  Once I moved out on my own to Long Island the pounds started packing on.  It started out slow, Guinness for dinner, heavy Indian food for lunch, pick up the phone & order chicken & broccoli or a pizza, can’t forget the pint of Ben & Jerry’s!  20 lbs later, I met my Husband.  Fast forward another 30 lbs & we get married.  Add another 10 & that’s where I am now.  All that happened in a matter of a few years.  It’s amazing how easy it was to put on.

I was overweight when I got pregnant with Natie.  During my pregnancy I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.  I was able to control it with diet & exercise, but the nutritionist warned me that I need to get my weight under control after I delivered my Son in order to keep off the dreaded diagnoses of being type 2 diabetic.  I continued to monitor my blood sugar, but not as often as I should have.  Eventually I was down to occasional spot checks & the fasting numbers I saw bothered me.  I called my doctor to have a physical, including full blood work.  Thankfully everything came back normal, but I was warned I was “borderline” diabetic and was told to get my weight down.

So this is where I am now.  Working on getting my weight down for my health & in turn for my family.  I want to be a good example for my Son – I also want to see him grow & have children of his own.  Something my parents weren’t able to see because of their early passing – my Dad with type 2 diabetes & heart problems – due to his weight (died when I was 20 wks pregnant).  I refuse to follow in his footsteps.  I’m hoping this blog will be a tool to help me in this journey.
